• Y6 Outdoor Education Residential Visit 2023

  On Monday 13th November we were all packed and excited to be setting off on our residential visit.  Mrs Bland got a phone call from High Borrans to let us know that the Weather Warning for Wind there had been elevated to Amber, and the advice was not to travel. 

  School had to take the disappointing decision not to travel and our adventure was delayed by a day.   We finally arrived at High Borrans feeling excited and keen to make up for lost time.  We settled into our rooms and met our group leaders.  During the week we slept well, ate well, did our chores without complaining and enjoyed a variety of activities.  We canoed on the tarn, ghyll scrambled, completed the ropes course, did some orienteering, explored a quarry and did a self led walk on one of the fells.  We had a wonderful adventure, we learned so much about ourselves and our friends, we tested our resilience and developed our independence and most importantly we have made many happy memories that will stay with us for many years.

  

• Big Art Week 2023

  During our Big Art Week 16th - 20th October all classes in school completely immersed themselves in the works of The Pitman Painters.  The Pitman Painters were a group of miners from Ashington who took up painting as a hobby.  Their paintings reflected their life experiences as miners and provide us with an insight into our local heritage.  The children really enjoyed learning about the mining tradition in Northumberland and seeing how this was reflected in the artworks.  The children then, inspired by these works, created their own works of art using a range of techniques and media.  On Wednesday 8th November we turned our school hall into a gallery and invited our families and local community to come and explore our Pitman Painters Art exhibition.  The children proudly showed their work to family members as they told them about the original works of art and the tradition of mining in our region.  We were overwhelmed by the feedback from visitors.  Well done to our children for such amazing work and a huge thanks to all the staff whose hard work and dedication makes this annual event possible. 

  

• In UK Parliament Week, Alan Campbell, our MP visits our School

  It has been UK Parliament Week and we have been taking the opportunity to further develop our knowledge and understanding of democracy and rule of law.  We were delighted that to enhance our learning our MP, Alan Campbell, was able to visit our school.  He talked to the children in Y4,5 and 6 about the job of  an MP, how you get elected, how you serve your constituents and what happens in the Houses of Parliament.  The children were very interested and had lots of excellent questions for him.  A huge thank you to Mr Campbell for his engaging workshop.
