Wrap Around Care

St Mary’s offers onsite care for pupils from Nursery class to Year 6 from 7.30am – 6.00pm every day that school is open to pupils.

The care runs in the form of a Morning Club 7.30am - 8.55am and Out of School Club 3.30pm -6.00pm.  The staff who run these clubs are all employed directly by the school and many have other roles in school supporting pupils learning and development.  This supports excellent relationships between staff and pupils.

Morning Club

Children are welcome from 7.30am, they enter via the ramped access on the Key Stage 2 yard and after signing in can decide how they wish to spend their time in the club, there are a range of activities to choose from including a selection of board games, jigsaws, small world toys, art and craft activities, Computing options and physical activity including hockey, table tennis and dodgeball to name a few.  The club does not provide breakfast we expect that children have had breakfast at home before arriving at school.

Out of School Club (OSC)

The team of 3 staff who run the club are experienced and skilled at caring for and nurturing our pupils.  Our facilities are excellent with a range of good quality toys and equipment in a fabulous room, purpose-built to feel homely, allowing children to have fun, to be inspired and to unwind after a busy day in the classroom.  The club also makes full use of the superb outside play areas and games equipment on site.  St. Mary's has offered a high quality out of school club on site for a number of years.

The club runs from 3.30pm to 6.00pm and operates every day that the school is open. Children are collected from classrooms by OSC staff and Parents collect their children from the club via the door at the top of the ramp on the Key Stage 2 yard where there is a secure buzzer entry system.

We encourage children who attend to take responsibility in the planning and organisation of topics and themes, displays and snack options. For example, topics chosen by the children have included, “World War II”, “The Deep Jungle” and “Under the Ocean”. Theme based activities include cookery, craft, board games, reading, imaginary play, construction, music, sport and much more. Children are offered many opportunities to explore and develop new interests and skills both inside and outside, and can choose the activities that appeal to them most. A snack and drink are provided each day. Fresh drinking water is available at all times. We promote independence by encouraging children to help plan and prepare their own snacks, where appropriate, and clear away after themselves. We recognise the importance of healthy nutrition for children delivered in a calm, friendly setting. The snack, however, is not intended as a substitute for their main evening meal.

Booking Childcare

The booking system for Out of School Club childcare is simple! Booking forms are distributed to the whole school via parent mail or are available below. You can pre-book as many or as few days as you need. Our booking system allows you to pick the specific dates you require - there’s no need to pick the same days every week; we offer flexible bookings which once pre-booked are guranteed. As well as our pre-booking system, we also offer an Emergency/Additional Care booking system for families whose patterns are less predictable. We warmly welcome emergency bookings and work hard to be able to cater for the ever changing needs of families. Emergency bookings are subject to availability and pre booking is the best way to secure your places. Remember if you book a session it must be paid for (regardless of attendance) unless 7 days notice is given. For emergency booking please call 0191 251 8080 or email SMRCOSC@stmarysonline.co.uk.
