Public Speaking Success

Each year the Catenian’s run a Public Speaking Competition and Bishop Bewick Trust encourages all 33 primary schools within the trust to enter a Y6 representative.  Over the Autumn termY6 classes in the trust schools have been working to identify a speaker to represent their school.  These children submitted a video of themselves making their speech and a panel of judges selected the top 6.  These were invited to deliver their speeches to a live audience in order to select a winner to go forward to the next round and represent our Trust.  Darcey was our school representative and was amongst the six who made their speeches today.

Mrs Bath, Bishop Bewick;s CEO, reminded the audience that Public Speaking is something that many people fear, it is something which to do well, requires a broad range of skills to be carefully blended and it is wonderful to see so many pupils from our Trust schools able to successfully harness their skills to deliver a speech to a group of strangers.

Darcey chose Poverty as the subject for her speech and she put together a wonderful speech that included facts and questions on the subject.  She spoke confidently and with excellent expression and passion, really engaging her listeners very well.

The judges had a very difficult task to identify a runner up and winner given the high quality of the participants.   Darcey was awarded the runner up prize.

Well done Darcey, what a wonderful achievement!
