WHAT PARENTS SAY ABOUT US

We know that when choosing a school for their child, parents can find it very useful to hear the views of parents whose children currently attend the school they are considering.  With that in mind we wanted to give prospective parents an insight into what our current parent body thinks of our school.  In July 2024 we asked our parents if they would recommend St Mary's as a school to other parents and if so why?  Here's what they said ...

'All three of my children attended St Mary's and they all have very fond memories of their time there. My youngest is coming to the end of year 6. It is such a nurturing school and all the teachers are very caring. They have a lovely buddy system, the year 6's get a "special friend" in reception and really enjoy taking a younger child under their wing. Because it is a small school with only one class for each year group everyone knows each other and my children made really strong friendships there. The teachers are all very approachable and it's easy to speak to them in the yard before or after school if you need to. My children didn't experience any bullying and bad behaviour is not tolerated. I am so glad we decided to send our children to St Mary's, they have all blossomed there and I am grateful to the lovely, caring staff.'

'Overall a great school with great facilities and a great ethos for nurturing and learning in a well led environment, effectively managed, always supporting the children their group and individual needs. Top primary school in my opinion.'

'St Mary's is a welcoming school with community feel. Our children in Nursery and School have absolutely thrived since joining and have formed close bonds with their classmates. The SEN support has been incredible and helped our child thrive from the moment they joined the school. We also couldn't recommend the Out of School Club any more. The wraparound care from all staff members is amazing and they create a home from home environment with activities for children of all ages.'

'St Mary's is a wonderful single-class entry school which places the child at the centre of everything they do. The curriculum, the moral guidance and the many extra activities are just a few of the reasons that this school excels in nurturing my children. It feels like a family and my children are more than happy at this school; they are educated, they are celebrated and they are cared for.'

'I would whole heartedly recommend St Mary's to other parents. It is a warm and welcoming environment and there is a real sense of community. St Mary's achieves great academic results and has a variety of extra curricular activities, but for me it is the focus on pastoral care that sets this lovely school apart from others. The headteacher and staff foster a culture of respect, positivity and care for others. My son feels valued, encouraged and supported.'

'An amazing school with such wonderful teachers/headteacher. I went here as a child and have nothing but fond memories that now my kids are making. Such an amazing support system in place which I'm so so grateful for'

'It is a fabulous primary school with one class per year, where the Head knows every student by name. It has a wonderful big family feel. There is a real focus on structured learning, which is what I like. My son had the best first two years of school in Nursery and Reception and Miss Jones is the most wonderful teacher.'

'St Mary's is a very special place, it is so much more than just school, it's a little community, it's a family, it's a sense of belonging. The ethos, the love, care and support St Mary's provides is so special and we feel so lucky to be part of it. Our little boy has thrived through nursery and reception and we only look forward to his future at St Mary's.'

'Our children have all been so happy at St Mary's. The school fosters a caring learning environment, and teachers really get to know the children and have been able to suggest extra support where needed, whether this this be academically or from a wellbeing point of view. All the staff are very friendly and approachable and there is a real sense of community within the school.'

'Fantastic, approachable staff! The school has great pastoral care with teachers and support staff having a good knowledge of all students across the school making it feel like a big family. Both my children love going to school and are enthusiastic about their lessons and learning due to the creativity and enthusiasm of their teachers. The wrap-around care is brilliant: my children love the days when they're in morning or afterschool club with the staff working there making the children feel so at home.'

'St Mary's is an incredibly supportive community. The staff treat the students as their own and provide them with academic and extra curricular experiences they may otherwise not have. The values of the school underpins everything they do, namely the way they treat every child as an individual. Both of my daughters skip happily into school and the nursery every morning to be greeted with a smile and kind words on the door if their classroom, which is a huge relief as a parent. The before and after school clubs (OOSC) plays a pivotal role in our work/ life balance and both children thoroughly enjoy spending time out of school in these safe, fun and enjoyable settings.'

'St Mary's is such an inclusive and welcoming school. My son is absolutely thriving and I can see how much his teachers care about him along with all the others. It's a perfect size, full of love, laughter and friendship and I'm just so pleased I chose St Mary's for my son's education.'

'Moving my child from a private nursery into St Mary's was the best choice I ever made. She has made so much progress academically as well as forming a great friendship group and having supportive staff. I wish they took two year old's so my youngest child could start earlier! The Nursery provision is also led fully by a teacher, which is something other schools in the area do not offer. My daughter will be moving into Reception next year and I can't wait for her to have small class sizes, experienced staff, a nurturing and homely environment and lots more academic progress. I was unsure around the Catholic element of the school when deciding where to apply, but after a 1:1 tour from Mrs Bland, I could see just how much other cultures and religions are taught too so that children are developed into well-rounded and knowledgeable young people. I couldn't recommend this school enough- whether you are Catholic or not!'

'St Mary's is a wonderful school with a fantastic team of teachers who have made both of our children feel very welcomed and supported. They provide a warm nurturing school environment and take the time to get to know the children. Our children are not baptised Catholic, yet we were offered a place for them both. There is never any pressure to attend church or feel that you have to believe in their Catholic values, but the way in which those values are taught has made a really positive difference to our children in terms of respect for others, as they learn so much more in their education. We highly recommend the school to other parents and families.'

'My children have been going to St Mary's for the past 3 years and have really enjoyed their time there. The intimate setting allows for a lot of attention for each child, with a lot of interaction between year groups. The teaching staff is excellent and extremely caring in their approach. On top of that the vast school grounds are fantastic and allow for multiple sporting activities! For these reasons, and more, I would highly recommend St Mary's to any parent looking for a school for their children.'
