Out of School Club

Out of School Club

St. Mary's offers after school care for pupils Reception Class to Year 6 in the form of an Out of School Club (OSC) which runs daily during term time.  The team of 3 staff who run the club are experienced and skilled at caring for and nurturing our pupils.  Our facilities are excellent with a range of good quality toys and equipment in a fabulous room, purpose-built to feel homely, allowing children to have fun, to be inspired and to unwind after a busy day in the classroom.  The club also makes full use of the superb outside play areas and games equipment on site.  St. Mary's has offered an excellent out of school club on site for a number of years, this provision was historically run by a volunteer committee of parents to whom we are very grateful.  The governing body of the school took over the running of this provision in September 2018.

What do OFSTED say?

" Staff are good role models. Parents are extremely happy with the service provided by the club.  They say that the staff are excellent and that they are kept informed about their children's time at the club. Children have lots of fun.  They form strong friendships and are confident in their interactions with staff and others. " (OFSTED June 2017)

The club runs from 3.30pm to 5.45pm and operates every day that the school is open. Children are collected from classrooms by OSC staff and Parents collect their children from the club via the door at the top of the ramp on the Key Stage 2 yard where there is a secure buzzer entry system.

We encourage children who attend to take responsibility in the planning and organisation of topics and themes, displays and snack options. For example, topics chosen by the children have included, “World War II”, “The Deep Jungle” and “Under the Ocean”. Theme based activities include cookery, craft, board games, reading, imaginary play, construction, music, sport and much more. Children are offered many opportunities to explore and develop new interests and skills both inside and outside, and can choose the activities that appeal to them most. A snack and drink are provided each day. Fresh drinking water is available at all times. We promote independence by encouraging children to help plan and prepare their own snacks, where appropriate, and clear away after themselves. We recognise the importance of healthy nutrition for children delivered in a calm, friendly setting. The snack, however, is not intended as a substitute for their main evening meal..

How do I book childcare?

The booking system for Out of School Club childcare is simple! Booking forms are distributed to the whole school via parentmail or are available below. You can pre-book as many or as few days as you need. Our booking system allows you to pick the specific dates you require - there’s no need to pick the same days every week; we offer flexible bookings which once pre-booked are guranteed. As well as our pre-booking system, we also offer an Emergency/Additional Care booking system for families whose patterns are less predictable. We warmly welcome emergency bookings and work hard to be able to cater for the ever changing needs of families. Emergency bookings are subject to availability and pre booking is the best way to secure your places. Remember if you book a session it must be paid for (regardless of attendance) unless 7 days notice is given. For emergency booking please call 0191 200 8812 or email

The fee for the club is £8.00 per child per session, £7.00 for siblings. Fees are payable in advance by cash BACs or using the Childcare Voucher Scheme.  BACs or standing order payments should be made  to NTC: Re: St Marys RC Prim  School, North Shields, Account Number 73471357 Sort Number 20-59-42 and reference the payment OSC/Child's Name.  Futher information on Childcare Voucher schemes can be obtained by speaking to a member of staff or seeing the document entitled 'Ways to Pay' below.
